Why is it called a "strike" when the batter does not strike the ball?
Answered By Bob Hanneck, Editor
According to the rule of MLB, a pitch is called a strike if it is struck at by the batter but missed. Strike is the failure to swing at a pitched ball. Strike is determined to be in the strike zone by the umpire.
